Cape Cod Photography - Kate Murphy Lowenstein Photography

Welcome to my blog! I am a family portrait and wedding photographer based on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. My style is casual and classy; modern and classic; creative and fun! My passion is capturing natural and genuine expressions of the people I photograph using natural light and creating "real life images".

My enthusiasm for photography began nine years ago when I borrowed my friend's SLR (film) camera for my honeymoon. It was then I discovered I had a talent for photography. I took classes and seminars, read books and immersed myself in photography and dreamed that someday I would be a photographer.

Forward nine years and I am a wife, mother of three, and a photographer. I wear flip flops or Uggs and jeans almost every day. I love to dress up on special occasions. I love the beach. I love meeting new people and spending time getting to know them. I love to capture who a person is, their genuine smiles, their interaction with the people they love. I think a person's eyes tell a lot about who they are, and I love getting so close to their eyes that I cut off their head in the photograph.

Rather than rambling on about myself, below is a glimpse into both my personal and professional life featuring images from my photo shoots as well as my family and friends. All in all, I hope my blog gives you a sense of who I am and what I'm all about...

Check back frequently for what's happening and studio specials.

Thanks for visiting!

And baby makes three

I get so excited when my former brides and grooms announce the arrival of their baby! And I was super thrilled to meet and photograph Jack for the first time a few weeks ago.

Isn't he cute?

Clearly, I'm loving this hat on the babies! And the airplane belonged to Jack's Dad when he was a baby. Love that!

Here's beautiful Mommy, Ellie and her baby.

And I love this one! Just look at the way Brian looks at his wife! (ahh, young love!)

Congratulations Ellie and Brian on your beautiful baby boy! It was great to see you and I hope to see you again soon!

Katie & Josh Engagement

Katie and Josh braved the cold weather Thanksgiving weekend for their engagement session. It was a bright, sunny day, but boy was it windy at Nobska Light in Woods Hole.

Trying to hide from the wind a bit and cuddle to stay warm in the nook of the lighthouse.

And down to the beach where it was actually a little warmer.

Love it! (Doesn't Katie have the best dimples?!)

One thing this couple loves to do together is fishing. (BTW, nothing was caught!)

I love the perspective in this shot, even though I find the owl a little creepy!

Thanks, Katie & Josh for braving the cold! I look forward to capturing the love and laughter at your wedding next September!

Happy Hanukkah! Merry Christmas! Joyous Festivus!

Well, it's been a great (and a little bit crazy) 2009. I am so looking forward to a great 2010 ahead and thank you all for your support.

This is my last post of the year as I finish off the last of my holiday orders tomorrow and sign off until mid-January 2010! If you call or email, I will OCCASIONALLY be checking messages, but don't be too surprised if I don't respond until mid-January after I have spent some much needed time with my family and attend an out of state photography seminar.

So, Joyous Holidays and Happy New Year! May all your wishes come true.

Baby in the studio

Whoa! It's been a very long time since I've posted images. So long, in fact, that I couldn't remember my password to get in to post and I just spend an hour trying to figure it out! I admit, I'm brain dead at the moment. In the midst of celebrating Hanukkah, getting ready for Christmas (I don't even have a tree yet), and feverishly processing images and orders until the wee hours, I can't even think straight.

At any rate, on to my post...

This gorgeous baby visited the studio a few weeks ago. She was about 6 weeks old when she came in. Can you believe the hair on her?

How cute is she?

She looks a little skeptical of me and my giant camera here, but I love her giant eyes peering right at me.

The curl in the middle of her forehead and her expression just crack me up.

With a little help from her Mom, she sat right up. I love this one.

But let's be real...Is this the cutest little thing you ever saw, or what?!
