Cape Cod Photography - Kate Murphy Lowenstein Photography

Welcome to my blog! I am a family portrait and wedding photographer based on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. My style is casual and classy; modern and classic; creative and fun! My passion is capturing natural and genuine expressions of the people I photograph using natural light and creating "real life images".

My enthusiasm for photography began nine years ago when I borrowed my friend's SLR (film) camera for my honeymoon. It was then I discovered I had a talent for photography. I took classes and seminars, read books and immersed myself in photography and dreamed that someday I would be a photographer.

Forward nine years and I am a wife, mother of three, and a photographer. I wear flip flops or Uggs and jeans almost every day. I love to dress up on special occasions. I love the beach. I love meeting new people and spending time getting to know them. I love to capture who a person is, their genuine smiles, their interaction with the people they love. I think a person's eyes tell a lot about who they are, and I love getting so close to their eyes that I cut off their head in the photograph.

Rather than rambling on about myself, below is a glimpse into both my personal and professional life featuring images from my photo shoots as well as my family and friends. All in all, I hope my blog gives you a sense of who I am and what I'm all about...

Check back frequently for what's happening and studio specials.

Braving the weather...

Last week I had the pleasure of meeting Sarah and Jamie for the first time. Sarah's mother had met with me a while back and had hired me for her daughter's April 2009 wedding. This isn't a first that I have never actually met the bride and groom before they hire me - sometimes everything is done over the phone and email and I don't meet the bride and groom until their wedding day. But this was a first time that I had been hired by the mother of the bride without also meeting the bride. She must really trusts her Mom's opinion and taste - I think that's great.

It was a balmy 40 or so degrees in Falmouth and these two were such troopers! There I was all bundled up in my down coat and they pretended not to be too cold as they stripped off theirs.

Here they are cuddling up to keep warm. I love how Sarah looks at Jamie. They are pictured in the back yard of the Coonamessett Inn where they will hold their reception this April. I hope it's a little warmer by then!

I had the two of them against this tree and they kissed. Some kids were walking by at that moment and couldn't resist giving the two of them a hard time. It made for some great genuine smiles.

In getting to know the couples I photograph, I always like to ask how they met. Well, Sarah had known Jamie's cousin for a long time and the two of them finally met a party. They were both huge Red Sox fans and Sarah showed Jamie her tattoo to prove that she was a bigger fan than he was.

They try to attend as many Red Sox games as they can. But no game will be as special for them as the game when Jamie proposed on the JumboTron. The funny thing is, Sarah didn't see the message as she was busy looking under her seat for something she thought she had dropped. Her family and his family members were in the stands to witness the proposal. I guess it's no mystery she said "yes!".

Here she is giving him "that look" again.

Thanks again for braving the cold and being flexible with your schedule, Sarah and Jamie! I look forward to seeing you again in April, just a couple days before opening day!

Baby new year!

OK, well he wasn't exactly born on the new year (he was a few days shy), but he was my first infant session of the new year. Meet Baby L.

He was so good and so wide-eyed through the whole session. What a cutey!

Here he is with his sister, little Miss S. I love how she is checking out his little hands and he is looking at her in adoration. So cute!

When they arrived, Miss S. had this cute hat on and I just had to get some pics of her in it. I love hats!

I loved this one, because she has that look on her face that says, "who me?"

Thanks to my friend for bringing in her cuties and being the baby-wrangler for the session! I had the heat cranked up so that the baby wouldn't get cold and by the end of the session we had both broken out in a sweat!
