Cape Cod Photography - Kate Murphy Lowenstein Photography

Welcome to my blog! I am a family portrait and wedding photographer based on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. My style is casual and classy; modern and classic; creative and fun! My passion is capturing natural and genuine expressions of the people I photograph using natural light and creating "real life images".

My enthusiasm for photography began nine years ago when I borrowed my friend's SLR (film) camera for my honeymoon. It was then I discovered I had a talent for photography. I took classes and seminars, read books and immersed myself in photography and dreamed that someday I would be a photographer.

Forward nine years and I am a wife, mother of three, and a photographer. I wear flip flops or Uggs and jeans almost every day. I love to dress up on special occasions. I love the beach. I love meeting new people and spending time getting to know them. I love to capture who a person is, their genuine smiles, their interaction with the people they love. I think a person's eyes tell a lot about who they are, and I love getting so close to their eyes that I cut off their head in the photograph.

Rather than rambling on about myself, below is a glimpse into both my personal and professional life featuring images from my photo shoots as well as my family and friends. All in all, I hope my blog gives you a sense of who I am and what I'm all about...

Check back frequently for what's happening and studio specials.

Last wedding of the year!

The day following Michael and Lucy's wedding on the Vineyard, I had the pleasure of photographing another wedding! Now normally I do not photograph more than one wedding per weekend, but Aly is a friend and a neighbor and it was a small wedding close to my home and I wouldn't have missed it!

The morning of Aly and Kevin's wedding, it was looking rather dreary, but about an hour prior to the ceremony, the sun came out and it was a warm and gorgeous fall day. They couldn't have asked for a better one in late October! So, I popped by their house (a mere three doors down from my own) and took a few quick shots of the bride and groom pre-ceremony. I selected this photograph because it show off Aly's beautiful smile.

Aly created the table settings the morning of the wedding. Since we live on the cranberry bogs in Cataumet, the cranberries were a must! The colors were fantastic!

Yum!

Here's Aly just prior to the ceremony. Gorgeous!

It was an intimate ceremony with family and a few friends.

Post-ceremony a few quick family shots and some of the bride and groom and their dog.

And some slobbery kisses from the dog before going home.

Kevin looks on.

Both Aly and Kevin have amazing eyes!

Thanks Aly and Kevin for letting me join you on your wedding day!

Going backwards...

Now that I am back to blogging, I've decided to go backwards instead of starting from where I left off (wherever that was!).

So, in mid-November Holly and Isaac came up from DC for some wedding planning and their engagement shoot. Wouldn't you know it, the forecast was for rain! I searched and searched for a public indoor venue for our photo session but everything seemed to be closed or unavailable.

They arrived mid-afternoon on Saturday right from the airport. Of course the sun had peeked out for a bit that morning, but 10 minutes before they got here it started to downpour again. After talking for a bit, the rain let up and we decided to go for our originally planned outdoor session at Bourne Farm. As we drove, drops hit the windshield and I was a little nervous that maybe my idea to continue wasn't such a good one.

It was spitting (or Worcestering, as I like to call it) and REALLY windy, but Holly and Isaac were such troopers! When I met Holly for the first time, she seemed really laid back and it was great to see that my first impressions were dead-on!

Usually it takes about 15 minutes for a couple to warm up in front of the camera. But check this out - it was probably within the first two minutes of photographing Holly and Isaac that I got this shot. Beautiful!

If you look closely at some of these, you can see the rain coming down...

And the wind blowing. But at least it was warm!

This series contains some of my favorites from the day and it makes me happy! In the first image, I love how Holly looks so lovingly at Isaac. In the 2nd, Isaac makes that face every time Holly kisses him - how cute! In the 3rd, I love how Isaac rests his chin on Holly's head and she laughs. And in the 4th, they look completely happy!

And I couldn't leave out Holly's Mom and Dad. You may notice the leash in Dad's hands. There was a dog on the end of it, but she was off swimming in the pond!

Holly has such gorgeous eyes and fantastic eyelashes (I want them)! I couldn't resist getting a close-up.

And here's that look she's giving him again!

And this is HOT! They look like models! I really had a difficult time selecting some to post online. I typically love the more candid ones like the series above where couples are laughing and not looking at the camera, but these two were just so natural in the more posed series as well that I couldn't resist!

Thank you Holly and Isaac for braving the weather with me! I can't wait to see you again in June for your 2009 wedding!
